Air Seychelles shouldn't pay a cent to Etihad Airways. This is what the government wants, because there have been disagreements for some time in connection with the loans granted by the golf carrier, which are now being negotiated at the highest level of the state.
As part of the “Hunter strategy”, which Etihad had copied from Swissair under the management of James Hogan, the company bought into financially weak airlines such as Air Berlin, Air Seychelles, Alitalia, Air Serbia and Darwin Airline. Ultimately, the project developed into a bottomless pit, so that Abu Dhabi gradually turned off the money tap. The governments have stepped in on the Seychelles and Serbia, as well as, of course, at Alitalia. For example, Air Berlin had to file for bankruptcy.
"No payment will be made this year in relation to the Air Seychelles-Etihad partnership agreement, and negotiations are ongoing on how to pay the accrued debt and return Etihad shares to bring the carrier back into full state ownership," said the government of Seychelles with.
This also means that Air Seychelles is to be operated again as a national airline in the future. The Etihad Aviation Group currently holds 40 percent. One has wanted to get rid of this block of shares for some time. Loans granted by Etihad Airways are also being negotiated.
