The shipping company Silversea Cruises will get another cruise ship with the Silver Ray. This is scheduled to set sail in the summer of 2024 and is a sister ship to the Silver Nova, which is currently under construction. Their maiden voyage is scheduled for August 2023.
The two new buildings are to have a drive system that will be powered by both LNG and fuel cells. Excess energy is to be temporarily stored in accumulators and used, for example, for lighting or in hotel operations.
The Meyer shipyard is the manufacturer of the new cruise ships. In a joint media statement, which was sent out on the occasion of the so-called burn start, the shipping company and the shipbuilder emphasize that the newbuildings should correspond to the current state of the art in terms of environmental and climate protection.
Managing Director Jan Meyer said for the Meyer shipyard: "Like the Silver Nova, with its innovative drive concept and other significant technical improvements, the Silver Ray represents a milestone on the way to climate-neutral cruises".
