The US aircraft manufacturer Boeing and Singapore Airlines have agreed that an existing order for 14 B787-10s will be converted into eleven B777-9s. The deal should be advantageous for the manufacturer, as the 777X program is stumbling.
The airline entered into negotiations with both Airbus and Boeing due to the corona pandemic. The aim of the discussions was to be able to postpone the delivery of the aircraft that had been ordered. SIngapore Airlines has now announced that an agreement has been reached with the Americans regarding a conversion. The bottom line of all measures is that expenditure of around 2,5 billion euros has been postponed for a few years.
"The agreements with Airbus and Boeing are an important part of our strategy to deal with the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic," said Singapore Airlines CEO Goh Choon Phong. This affects firm orders for 35 A320 series, 15 A350, 31 737-Max, 20 787 and 31 777X.
