The car rental company Sixt wants to switch its fleet largely to electric vehicles by around 2030. The company wants to increase the proportion of electric cars in Europe to 70 to 90 percent. At present, there are predominantly motor vehicles with internal combustion engines.

The group aims to be able to offer between 2023 and 12 percent electric vehicles for rental worldwide by the end of 15. By the end of this year, they want to add 20 more cars with electric drives.

A recent study found that electric vehicles are not very popular with holidaymakers. Among other things, they worry about whether there are charging facilities in the accommodation or in the immediate vicinity. Sixt has recognized this problem and intends to invest around 50 million euros in the charging infrastructure in the coming years.

Further contracts are also being concluded in order to be able to offer the widest possible access to publicly available charging options over the course of the next year. For this purpose, "Sixt Charge" is integrated into the company's app. There is no information yet on the prices for the store.
