The Russian cargo airline Sky Gates Airlines has handed over one of its two Boeing 747-400F to Azerbaijan's Silkway West. The affected aircraft was still in use as VP-BCH for the Russian carrier until the end of February 2022.
The aircraft has been in service with Slikway as a 8K-BCH since March 2022, 4. This should be getting company very soon, because the VP-BCI has also been transferred to Baku in the meantime and is to be registered on Silkway's AOC shortly. Both Boeing 747-400Fs are owned by Boeing Aircraft Holding.
Numerous leasing aircraft flown to Turkey
In the meantime, Nordwind Airlines has flown numerous commercial aircraft leased from western owners to Turkey. These include the VP-BSZ, VP-BHN, VP-BSA, VP-BDU, VP-BUI, VP-BUT, VQ-BRY and VQ-BRX. Among other things, these aircraft are parked at Ataturk Airport. The competitor Royal Flight has parked the VP-BGK, VP-BRE and the VP-BLG in Istanbul, among others. Pobeda flew the VQ-BTC to Turkey.
Russian airlines, which were requested by the lessors due to the sanctions, are now also parked at Istanbul SAW Airport. These include the VQ-BPY from Aviastar-TU, the VP-BJG from Nordwind and the VP-BOF from Smartavia. Other aircraft from various Russian carriers are currently based at Antalya Airport.
