SkyUp cancels expansion in Germany

SkyUp cancels expansion in Germany

Advertising

At the beginning of the year, the Ukrainian low-cost airline SkyUp announced a major expansion in the direction of Germany and other countries in Western Europe. Nothing will come of that, because the company canceled almost all newly announced routes. For example, all routes in Germany are affected.

The carrier wanted to fly to Berlin, Munich, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, Nuremberg, Hanover, Hamburg and Memmingen from Kiev-Borispil or Lviv, Odessa and Zaporizhia since the end of March 2021. After several postponements, the provisional rejection follows. According to the current planning status, SkyUp will not fly to Germany in the summer of 2021.

Ostrava, Brno, Catania, Bari, Rimini Lamezia-Terme, Bergamo, London-Luton, London-Stansted and Podgorica are also affected. Flights from Kiev-Borispil to Lyon and Rhodes have been announced.

On request, SkyUp Airlines did not provide any details on the cancellation of the Western European expansion and also left it open whether it was a final cancellation or a postponement, for example to next year. It is to be assumed that one could have miscalculated the demand due to the entry and quarantine regulations.

Ryanair and / or Wizz Air, among others, operate on many routes, but not all. This is likely to lead to tough competition in certain areas, so that achieving the desired average yield is likely to be complicated.
