The country of Slovenia is reviewing considerations regarding the creation of a new airline to revitalize the Slovenian tourism sector after the economic loss caused by the bankruptcy of Adria Airways. Whether this idea will actually be implemented must be examined by the Ministry for Infrastructure in the next few weeks before any airline can be founded.

Adria Airways, once known as Slovenia's largest airline, caused significant losses in the tourism sector by going bankrupt in 2019. In this regard, considerations are now being made about the establishment of another airline, which should neutralize Slovenian tourism again and restore connections between Slovenia and the world in order to ensure the accessibility of the country. The basis for the decision to set up a new carrier is provided by analyzes by a group of experts installed by the government. With the help of this analysis, a final decision should now be made by the government in the future.

“My opinion on this matter is not as important as what these studies will show. Our country has already had a bad experience with its national airline. Not only was she bought by a disastrous buyer, resulting in her bankruptcy, but a few years earlier Adria was posting huge losses, year after year. We had to grant state aid and of course all this has to be on the table so that the government has all the facts when it decides which way to go. But we can hear the voice of business, which of course says that Slovenia needs such a company again,” says Slovenian Infrastructure Minister Alenka Bratušek.

In addition to the consideration of founding a new airline, a state tender in July is also intended to pursue the goal of improving Slovenia's connectivity. Other airlines are to take over Slovenian routes in order to ensure the accessibility of Slovenian connections. Specifically, a tender is planned for July, in which external airlines should take over Slovenian routes on behalf of the tourism sector, as reported by the portal Ex-Yu Aviation News.
