Slovenian government: Wizz Air starts in Maribor

Advertising

According to Slovenian State Secretary Franc Kangler, the Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air is to start a new connection between Maribor and Skopje "very soon". This would mean that the carrier would be flying to two airports in Slovenia for the first time.

So far, the market presence has been concentrated on the capital's airport, Ljubljana. It has been quiet in Maribor for a long time, because in the past scheduled offers, including those from Ryanair, could not last very long. Only recently it became known that Luxwing under the brand Skyalps will take on various charter flights.

The member of the government explained to “Sierra 5”, among other things, that the low-cost airline Wizz Air will soon be offering the capital of North Macedonia from Maribor. Long and extensive negotiations were held with the low coster. However, Kangler also admitted that a final contract has not yet been signed.

A possible comeback by Ryanair is also in the air. Among other things, the ministry confirmed that promising negotiations are also being conducted with this carrier. Since the collapse of the Chinese conglomerate that briefly operated Maribor Airport, it has once again been under the wing of the government. With various incentives, attempts are being made to breathe new life into the airport, which is in a deep slumber – apart from its role in the area of pilot training.
