On Saturday morning, an Embraer 190 operated by KLM Cityhopper had to make an unscheduled landing at Düsseldorf Airport. According to a statement by the Federal Police, the pilots noticed the smell of smoke and therefore decided to make a safety landing.

The regional jet touched down safely in Düsseldorf. Passengers and crew were able to exit the aircraft unharmed. KLM wants to have rebooked the affected travelers. The affected Embraer 190 was temporarily withdrawn from flight operations for the purpose of technical inspection.

The machine, operated by KLM Cityhopper, was en route from Amsterdam-Schiphol to Venice on behalf of the parent company. The pilots noticed the smell of smoke and then carried out a safety landing in accordance with regulations. As a precaution, but fortunately not needed, Düsseldorf has prepared for an emergency. A total of four incoming flights were therefore diverted to Cologne/Bonn. There were minor delays in the departures.
