The Irish low-cost airline Ryanair is planning an extremely extensive flight program for summer 2021, which is only 29 percent below 2019. Vienna-Schwechat Airport is the tenth busiest airport in the Group's route network in terms of services.

The lowcoster plans to serve a total of 1.809 routes in the summer of 2021. According to the Simpleflying portal, this is an increase of 112 percent compared to the previous year. Most flights are offered - in descending order - from London-Stansted, Dublin, Bergamo, Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona, Charleroi, Malaga, Manchester and Vienna.

The fact that Vienna-Schwechat appears in Ryanair's Top-10 comes as a surprise when you consider that Chief Commercial Officer and Lauda Europe / Malta Air boss David O'Brien announced just a few weeks ago that the presence was due to high Airport costs should be greatly reduced. The numerous jobs should also be on the brink.

74 routes planned from Vienna

According to Simpleflying, Ryanair plans to have 68 routes operated by Lauda with Airbus A320s from Vienna. There are even 90 routes within the Ryanair route network. The other two Lauda Europe bases are Zadar and Palma de Mallorca. The group is planning a total of 74 routes from Vienna, only six of which are operated by Buzz, Ryanair and Malta Air. All others are to be served with Lauda Europe aircraft.

How many routes the Ryanair Group will actually operate in the summer flight schedule of 2021 will depend heavily on the further development of entry and quarantine regulations as well as the booking behavior of potential passengers. However, it can be observed that several airlines are planning more optimistically again. For example, Eurowings expects that 80 planes will be in the air during the holiday months.
