At Whitsun and during the summer holidays, Palma de Mallorca and destinations in Turkey and Greece are particularly popular with Germans. In the course of an evaluation, the Skyscanner portal found that the average prices are currently 52 percent below those of the two previous years.

Many Germans dream of favorite destinations like Turkey, Spain or Greece. Turkey ranks first among the most popular travel destinations - even though the country was declared a high-risk area at the beginning of April. In the past few years, too, Turkey has always been one of the most popular travel destinations for Germans. At the end of March, the destination recorded an increase in searches for Whitsun of around 1 percent compared to the beginning of the month. The top 330 most wanted countries for Pentecost are Turkey, Greece, Spain, Italy and the USA.

Especially when it comes to summer holidays, those who are hungry for travel are increasingly interested in destinations outside Europe in addition to destinations within Europe. The most popular summer vacation destination for Germans is the USA. The top 5 most wanted countries for summer vacation are the USA, Thailand, Greece, Spain and Turkey. When it comes to bookings, the travel destinations in Europe clearly predominate. Overall, too, the searches differ quite significantly from the bookings. Skyscanner's conclusion: Germans are already looking for inspiration in the distance for the summer, but are less courageous when booking and consider a trip to Europe to be more realistic.

Prices below the level of previous years

According to Skyscanner, many top flight destinations can currently be booked at bargain prices. Around the Whitsun holidays, the average prices for a return flight to the currently most popular European travel destinations Spain, Turkey, Greece and Italy are up to 52 percent below the previous year's prices. In the main holiday month of July, the average prices for a flight to these countries are up to 34 percent cheaper than last year. If you want to be on the safe side, you can use the Skyscanner filter “Flexible Tickets” to display search results with flights that can be rebooked or canceled. Skyscanner already recorded a booking boom in mid-March after the travel warning to Mallorca was lifted. The number of flight bookings to Spain rose by 41 percent overnight.

These are the most popular destination airports with the current average prices (return flight) for Whitsun from Germany:

  • Palma de Mallorca (Spain): 120 euros
