Spain will participate in the planned capital increase of the International Airlines Group through the sovereign wealth fund SEPI. The Council of Ministers gave the green light for this. Before that, an exit from the British-Spanish joint venture was briefly up for debate.

SEPI currently holds 2,52 percent of IAG and will bring in around 69,3 million euros as part of the capital increase. The total volume of the capital increase approved by the shareholders at the beginning of September 2020 is 2,74 billion euros. The Spanish state holding does not receive any special rights through participation, but only prevents the dilution of the participation. Major shareholder Qatar Airways will also participate in the upcoming capital increase.
