At Wamos Air, which specializes in providing charter and ACMI services, an era is coming to an end: With the EC-KXN, the last Boeing 747-400 aircraft was officially decommissioned. The four-jet engine has already been flown to Bishkek.
The EX-KXN is currently 27,1 years old and was chartered for a return flight on the Windhoek-Frankfurt route last year. Since then, the jumbo jet has only had a few flying missions. Wamos Air once operated up to six Boeing 747-400s in parallel. In total, there were eight different aircraft of this type.
In the future, the long-haul fleet of this carrier will only consist of two-jet engines. This currently consists of six Airbus A330-200s and one A330-300. Some are used as so-called “preighters”. The seats were removed from the passenger planes in order to be able to increase the cargo capacity.
