This year significantly more people will visit the Spanish islands. At least Arturo Ortiz, the head of the Turespaña Tourist Office, is more than convinced of that.

The Germans in particular would stimulate demand for trips to Spain, said Ortiz. “After Easter, the need to travel will increase sharply. The Spanish islands will be the first to benefit, ”Ortiz believes. Above all the Balearic Islands, as the incidence figures have been below 50 per 100.000 inhabitants for weeks and the summer months are the main travel time for the islands. This was also confirmed by several Spanish tourism experts in discussions during the virtual ITB.

According to Turespaña, trips to Spain will recover in phases. “We think that there will be a cautious recovery in German trips to Spain in May and June,” said Ortiz. Expressed in figures, he reckons with 35 percent of the arrivals compared to a normal year.

In a second phase, the tourist office expects 50 percent of the normal tourist volume in the summer weeks, reports fvw.de. From September onwards, the third phase begins, in which the number of visitors almost approached that of a regular season. He warns that the Germans will reserve late. "But not as late as in other source markets."
