The Spanish pilots' union Sepla is threatening strikes at numerous airlines that have staff based in the state. The airlines affected are Swift Air, Plus Ultra, Eurowings Europe, Vueling, Iberia, Ryanair, Lauda Europe, Easyjet Europe, Norwegian, Jet2, Air Europa and Air Nostrum.
At a press conference, workers' representatives also expressed their displeasure that the recent strikes, which have taken place at Air Europa and Air Nostrum, have been disrupted by an order from the Spanish Ministry of Transport. This has imposed that a certain minimum supply must be maintained. They don't want to let that sit down and announce that the strikes are to be extended to other airlines in the middle of the summer, which is traditionally busy with travel.
It is appealed to the government that it should "stay out" of the labor dispute, because the measures taken so far have not brought workers and employers closer together, but rather accelerated the escalation. A Sepla secretary also said it was in close coordination with other unions, such as those of air traffic controllers and cabin crew. He hinted that a joint, larger strike could go ahead.
It has not yet been finally decided whether the pilots will be called on to walk out or not. It is emphasized, however, that the plans are already "ready to go and on the table". Regarding Air Europa, new strike days have already been set: May 22, 23, 25, 26, 29 and 30 and June 1 and 2, 2023. It is completely open how many pilots of the Spanish airline will actually be on going on strike.
