For a schnitzel with beer, Austrian Airlines will be charging 18 euros from March 2021, 14. Soft drinks will cost between three and five euros, according to the menu published by the airline on Friday.

Swiss, Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines will soon switch to paid catering in economy class. The AUA will kick off on March 18, 2021. The internal uprising of the flight attendants has apparently had an effect. In contrast to the original announcement, there will now be - just like with the two sister companies - free water. Due to the negative experiences that Austrian Airlines had in the first paid catering phase at the beginning of the 2000s, they did not want to "give this away" without payment. But now there is a U-turn, so that water and a piece of chocolate remain free.

The introduction of paid catering in economy class has no impact on business. According to AUA, nothing will change in this class of carriage. The current Economy Class service will also remain unchanged on flights with a flight time of over three hours. This also applies to Austrian Airlines passengers on Austrian Holidays charter flights (recognizable by the four-digit flight number beginning with 2 or 9, e.g. OS9103 to Rhodes).

The new AUA menu can be found at this link can be downloaded in PDF format.
