The Indian low-cost airline Spicejet and the US aircraft manufacturer were able to reach an unusual agreement on the delays in delivery of the Boeing 737-Max model. The lowcoster receives two used Boeing 777-200ERs, which are to serve as compensation.
The two widebodies are expected to join the carrier's fleet in December 2021. We are currently looking for personnel for the long-haul jets. However, the first flight at Spicejet is still open. There is no specific information on this yet. The low-cost airline also keeps a low profile about which destinations you want to head for with the Boeing 777-200ER.
Local media speculate that these should initially be used as pre-fighters. At a later point in time, depending on the further course of the corona pandemic, these could also be used for expansion to Europe or the USA. The fact that an agreement has been reached on two used long-haul aircraft as compensation is by no means commonplace.
