The Boeing 737 Max series as well as the military variant of the B737NG, the P-8 "Poseidon" is affected by a new quality problem. Supplier Spirit Aerosystems confirmed that fuselages shipped from the Wichita plant are affected.

According to the company, "extended mounting holes on the rear pressure bulkhead" are affected. The problem also lies in the fact that the parts that are supplied to Boeing are not entirely manufactured by Spirit itself. On the other hand, it is claimed that this should be an advantage, because not all, but only "a few" units would be affected.

Spirit further explained that measures had already been taken. These are intended to ensure that the quality defects no longer occur. A statement reads, among other things: "We are working closely with our customer to correct all affected units within the production system and to carry out any necessary rework".

The affected aircraft manufacturer Boeing believes that there are no safety concerns. The quality defects found had no "immediate impact on the flight safety of the B737 Max". The fleets could continue to be operated without problems.
