Actually, Lufthansa boss Carsten Spohr wanted to finally phase out the 14 Airbus A380. But now the manager is thinking aloud that at least part of it could be reactivated. The Kranich Group currently has eight copies that are in long-term storage.
The Airbus A380 was once the flagship of the Lufthansa Group. In the course of the corona pandemic, the sub-fleet was taken out of service. Some examples have already left Lufthansa, leaving only eight parked superjumbos. According to Carsten Spohr's original announcement, there would be no comeback. He only repeated this statement in April 2022 to the news magazine “Der Spiegel”.
However, the Kranich CEO no longer seems to be quite sure, because as early as May 2022 he promised that if there was “unexpectedly strong demand”, at least some of the eight Airbus A380s could be put back into scheduled service. Speaking at the Iata AGM held in Doha, Spohr said the relevant decision will be made in July 2022.
