The Polish Star Alliance member LOT is in negotiations with the government about state aid amounting to around one billion euros. The financial requirements are due to the effects of the corona crisis, according to the Group's annual report published a few days ago.
The carrier is wholly owned by the Polish state through the holding company PGL. In recent weeks, this has repeatedly signaled that financial support from LOT is open and positive. However, specific figures were not given until the publication of the annual report.
The airline writes that around 65 million euros will be needed by the end of the year to avoid a loss of liquidity. LOT only received a state financial injection of around 2012 million euros in 117. Without the fact of the corona pandemic, further support would only be possible again from 2022. The EU Commission handles this regulation rather loosely due to the fatal situation for airlines - due to the Covid 19 crisis - and has so far given the green light to almost all aid to airlines across Europe. It is unlikely that the Commission will act any differently with regard to LOT.
