According to its own statements, the airline Austrian Airlines will repay a further 31 million euros of the state loan granted in the previous year on December 2021, 30. Taking into account the installment that was transferred in July 2021, 60 million euros have been repaid so far.

The rescue package that the Austrian government put together for the Lufthansa subsidiary last year included a “non-repayable grant” of 150 million euros and a 300 million euros loan for which the Republic of Austria is liable. Austrian Airlines declares, among other things, that the repayment agreements would be “fulfilled as planned”.

“The corona pandemic has led to the worst crisis in the company's history. Without the support of the Austrian federal government and other stakeholders, the continued existence of Austrian Airlines as such would not have been possible. We are proud that we have already repaid a fifth of our financial aid as planned and that we are fulfilling our responsibilities as promised. And this despite the fact that the pandemic is going on longer than we all hoped. We will continue on this course in order to be the red-white-red home carrier at Vienna Airport in the future, which connects Austria with the world, ”explains board member Michael Trestl.

In June 2020, Austrian Airlines received a corona aid package totaling 600 million euros, 150 million euros of which as an equity contribution from the parent company Lufthansa and a further 150 million euros as state cover for damages. The remaining 300 million euros were guaranteed by the Republic of Austria as a loan through bank financing. The loan is to be repaid in half-yearly installments by 2026.
