In the next few weeks Lufthansa could wake up around 50 additional machines from the “Corona sleep”, because according to board member Harry Hohmeister the demand is currently so strong that the use of large-capacity machines on typical vacation routes is being considered.

In an interview with the newspapers of the Funke media group, Hohmeister explained that the number of new bookings has risen steadily and significantly in the last two months. “For flights in July and August, the demand is ten to eleven times as high as it was four weeks ago,” said the manager.

According to Hohmeister, it is also noteworthy that on certain routes the demand should even be above the level of the time “before Corona”. Therefore, more aircraft are needed than originally thought. The board member said it is currently estimated that between 30 and 50 additional jets can be reactivated in the next few weeks.

“We are very flexible in our planning and can quickly offer enough seats. As an exception, we can also carry 370 passengers with a jumbo on a route that is in high demand instead of a short-haul plane with 180 guests ”, says Hohmeister, who promises the use of long-haul machines on short tourist routes.
