Strike at Transavia France: Around 30 percent of all flights canceled

The low-cost airline Transavia France has to cancel up to 30 percent of its planned flights at the weekend. The background is that unions have been calling on cabin crew to walk out since Wednesday.

So far, the Air France KLM subsidiary has had to cancel numerous flights. Around 30 percent of the supply was affected on Friday. For Saturday, Transavia France has also canceled 30 percent of all flights. For Sunday, the airline expects to have to cancel about a quarter.

The French division of Transavia is affected by the strike. Although the Dutch sister company is not on strike, it had to in advance due to a lack of staff and limited capacity cancel numerous flights from Amsterdam-Schiphol. A small part of the offer was relocated to other airports in the Netherlands.

In France, the flight attendant union Syndicat National du Personnel Navigant Commercial, among others, is calling on the cabin crew of Transavia France to stop work for an indefinite period. At first, participation was rather low, because “only” about 15 percent of the planned flights had to be canceled on Wednesday and Thursday. The number of deletions has doubled since Friday. This strongly suggests that more flight attendants have joined the strike.

The union last week refused to sign a collective bargaining agreement with other groups, saying it would set the base wage for newly hired flight attendants below the minimum wage. A spokesman for the airline told Bloomberg that the deal includes bonus payments and improved workforce scheduling. In addition, the media officer said that when variable components are added to base pay, the pay is above minimum wage.
