Amsterdam Airport Schiphol again proved to be Europe's "chaos hotspot" over the weekend. Again there were hours of waiting, with the queues in front of the security checkpoints being particularly long.

Many passengers are said not to have reached their flights on time despite waiting for hours. The daily passenger cap imposed by Schiphol has so far not been able to alleviate the precarious situation. In the meantime, the managing director has also announced his resignation.

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and the service providers working on site are suffering from a massive staff shortage. For several months, there have been extremely long queues in many areas, especially in front of the security checkpoints. Many passengers cannot catch their flights despite waiting five hours or more.

The measures taken so far by the Schiphol management have not been able to solve the situation. Interest on the labor market in jobs at the airport continues to be within very narrow limits. During the pandemic, many employees were made redundant by service providers, but also by the airport itself. It was speculated that these would return, but in the vast majority of cases this has not happened.

Some passengers have documented their situation with photos on social media and sometimes also posted their personal anger. Two examples are embedded below.
