Storm impacted AUA flight plan

The sometimes enormously strong storm in northern Germany and Denmark also messed up the flight schedule of Austrian Airlines on Saturday. For example, two Airbus A320 could not land at the planned destination.

The Airbus A320 with the registration OE-LBW was on the way from Vienna to Hamburg as OS 171. Shortly after the descent to the Hanseatic city airport was initiated, the captain decided not to land for safety reasons. They returned to Vienna-Schwechat.

Flight OS 2629 from Innsbruck via Billund to Gothenburg was also affected. The Airbus A320 with the registration OE-LBQ made two approach attempts to Billund, but the captain then decided to make an alternate landing in Berlin. The W-Pattern course pair was then aborted and the medium-haul jet ferry flew back to the home base in Vienna.

Upon request, Austrian Airlines confirmed that the two Airbus A320s could not land at the respective destination airports due to the strong storms. A spokeswoman told Aviation.Direct: "The return/alternative landings were both necessary for a safe landing due to the bad weather (very strong winds) in both Hamburg and Billund."
