From January 18, 2022, new rules will apply to access to the departure level directly in front of the terminals: anyone who drives up there to drop off passengers can take a total of eight minutes - previously only three minutes were allowed.
The next five minutes then cost five euros. If you hold up to 20 minutes, you pay 20 euros, with up to 30 minutes you pay 30 euros. The right of way is regulated by automatic barriers. When entering and exiting, cameras temporarily register the license plate. You can pay in cash or electronically at five machines along the driveway to the terminal. All you need to do is enter the license plate number. If you stop for less than eight minutes, you can drive out directly and don't even have to go to the machine. If the camera should fail, tickets can be withdrawn at the entrance.
If you want to give yourself more time, you can still park for one hour free of charge in the nearby P0 car park. There are also other options for short-term parking in car park P5 on the arrivals level or in the surrounding multi-storey car parks P2, P3, P4, P6, P12 and P25. The car can be parked there for 2,50 minutes at a flat rate of 30 euros. Alternatively, there are numerous connections with local public transport - in addition to the S-Bahn and various bus connections, the U6 light rail has recently been running to the airport. It is only a few steps from the new terminus to the terminal.
The new regulation is intended to make traffic on the departure level safer, more disciplined and smoother again. The driveway directly in front of the terminal buildings is often heavily frequented. The previously applicable restricted parking ban was often not observed. As a result, there were often overloads with backlogs and confusing and sometimes dangerous situations on the terminal approach. In the event of emergencies in the terminal, ambulance and fire-fighting vehicles that were approaching were blocked several times in the past, according to the airport in a broadcast.
