The Verdi trade union and the employers of the ground handling service providers working at Stuttgart Airport were able to reach an agreement in collective bargaining. For around 300 employees there will be higher wages from August 1, 2022.

The Baden-Württemberg state organization of Verdi announced that warning strikes are now finally off the table because an agreement has been reached with the employers. The employees in the areas of check-in and baggage handling will receive around 18 percent more wages in two stages. The new collective agreement will apply from August 1, 2022 and will run until the end of June 2023.

The employee representatives positively emphasized that the negotiating climate in Stuttgart was said to have been constructive from the start and that the employers had always signaled their willingness to pay higher wages. “Wage increases that really and completely compensate for inflation and even add a bit of value to the professions. This is the only way to fill vacancies,” says negotiator Jan Bleckert, who also hopes that Stuttgart could become the blueprint for other collective bargaining.
