South Africa: BA franchisee Comair to be liquidated

The South African airline Comair is threatened with the final end, because neither the management nor the insolvency administrator have been able to raise the necessary funds to continue business operations.

Comair is one of the oldest private airlines in South Africa and operates primarily under the Kulula brand. Furthermore, one is a franchisee of British Airways and operates flights under their brand on their own account. Or rather: led, because flight operations recently had to be stopped again. The carrier then had to register a creditor protection procedure.

The machines were already on the ground for a short time a few weeks ago, because the civil aviation authority had to comply with regulations due to violations Flight ban issued. It was indeed possible to clear this up, but one was after it not very long in the airbecause bankruptcy followed.

It was initially confident that the next restart would be possible by the third quarter of 2022 at the latest, but this hope is likely to have been dashed. The bankruptcy administrator has applied to the responsible court for the initiation of liquidation because the funds still available are not sufficient. Despite intensive efforts, no fresh money could be found and no serious investor could be found. Therefore, the traditional carrier, which was founded in 1946, is now threatened with judicial liquidation.
