A new cargo airline is launched in South Africa under the name Suid Cargo Airlines. Initially they intend to use a Boeing 727-200F operated by Astral Aviation, but at a later date they intend to operate more modern models themselves.
The company founders explicitly name Embraer 190F, Airbus A320F and Boeing 737-800F, which they want to use from 2024. However, it has not yet been finally decided which of the three patterns it wants to become. In any case, Astral Aviation is supposed to help out with an old Boeing 727-200F at the beginning.
Scheduled cargo flights will initially not be offered. As a first step, Suid Cargo wants to establish itself in the field of ad hoc freight charters. A network of around 20 destinations is to be set up later. Mainly one plans to head for destinations on the African continent.
The home base of the new company is to be Tambo International Airport. Pending self-AOC and operating approval, Astral Aviation's Boeing 727-200F will operate on a charter basis for Suid Cargo Airlines. The company founders also emphasize that it was agreed that other models of the operating carrier's fleet could be used if required. The start of operations is announced for the second quarter of 2023.
