The next few weeks and months may be crucial to the success or failure of the 2021 summer season. Not surprisingly, many airlines are still cautious in their planning for the warm season this year and try to make their decisions as late as possible.

The possible “key to success” lies in two factors which the airlines can only minimally or not at all influence. First and foremost, it is the entry and quarantine regulations, which in turn are a significant factor in the air travel demand in the market. Nobody can say now whether potential passengers want to travel abroad again immediately or whether they - for whatever reason - will continue to hold back. This is precisely why the airlines are behaving cautiously, in other words: You want to and have to remain flexible.

Accordingly, the outlook for the summer of 2021 is still extremely incomplete and is more like a look into the crystal ball, because changes, cancellations, but also the inclusion of new routes are possible at any time.

The first new routes will be announced from Vienna

Ab Vienna would like the Romanian blueair operate a connection to Bucharest up to ten times a week. This is to be taken up with Boeing 737-800 from March 28.03.2021, XNUMX.

Corendon plans the goals from the capital Hurghada, Izmir, Kayseri, Antalya and Heraklion to offer. These are seasonal connections that are to be phased in from the beginning of May 2021. The carrier is currently planning to fly to the aforementioned destinations twice a week from Vienna and pick them up at the following times: Hurghada: May 1, 2021; Izmir: June 19, 2021; Kayseri: June 27, 2021; Antalya: May 2, 2021 and Heraklion: June 2, 2021. All destinations are to be served by Boeing 737-800.

To Heraklion it should be noted that this route is also from Aegean Airlines should be re-recorded. The Greek carrier plans to commute between Crete and Vienna twice a week from May 8, 2021. Aircraft of the type Airbus A320 are planned. Wizzair and Ryanair plan to operate this route as well, so that - if all announcements are actually implemented - there would be a very large variety of providers in the direction of Heraklion.

The Turkish holiday airline SunExpress intended between July 3, 2021 and September 25, 2021 once a week with Boeing 737-800 between Bodrum and fly to Vienna. Laudamotion actually wanted to start this route last year, but due to the corona pandemic, the subsequent demotion to ACMI service provider for Ryanair and the subsequent cessation of flight operations, it never came to this.
