A current survey carried out by Unique Research on behalf of the news magazine Profil shows that only 21 percent of Austrians want to spend their summer vacation abroad. Should this actually happen, it is to be expected that airlines and tour operators could drastically reduce their capacities.

Another aspect: If the survey were to prove to be true, there would be considerable overcapacities on the market. These inevitably lead to low prices, as low-cost airlines in particular get nervous at some point and try to stimulate demand through low ticket prices. Traditionally, the second step is then that connections and routes with only a few bookings are canceled.

The survey also showed that 27 percent of Austrians want to spend their summer vacation in Germany. 39 percent want to stay at home. Only 13 percent are still undecided. This means that the vacation plans have not changed significantly compared to the first year of the pandemic. This shows a comparison with the survey of the same name in May 2020. At that time, 13 percent went abroad, 31 percent wanted to vacation in Austria, 46 percent had no travel plans at all. 500 people were interviewed. The fluctuation range is four percent.
