With a remarkable expansion of its flight program, SunExpress, the joint venture between Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines, is sending a strong signal for the 2025 summer season.

From Nuremberg, the airline will dramatically expand its offering and will then offer an unprecedented number of flights to popular destinations in Turkey. Particularly noteworthy is the more frequent connection to Antalya, which will make SunExpress the leading airline at Nuremberg Airport. This represents a significant step in the expansion of SunExpress' capacities and service offerings, which is intended to appeal to families as well as frequent travelers and holidaymakers.

Extended flight offer to Antalya

SunExpress will connect Nuremberg with Antalya with up to four daily flights from summer 2025, making the airline the most frequently flying company on this route. The new flight program includes additional connections at family-friendly times, especially in the morning. This is intended to meet the needs of families who want to travel comfortably during the peak season. The additional flights, which depart on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 10:55 a.m., offer a flexible way for travelers to explore the Turkish Riviera.

SunExpress is known for its excellent service, having recently been named “Best Leisure Airline in Europe” by Skytrax. This recognition underlines the airline’s commitment to quality and customer service and is reflected in the expansion of the summer flight schedule.

Expansion of connections to Izmir and Dalaman

In addition to the increased connection to Antalya, SunExpress will also be expanding its flights to Izmir. The Turkish port city on the Aegean coast will be served up to seven times a week. Izmir is known for its relaxing beaches as well as its rich history, including the nearby UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ephesus. This destination offers a combination of relaxation and cultural experiences that is attractive to many travelers.

In addition to the destinations in Antalya and Izmir, SunExpress will also continue the connection to Dalaman, which was launched in May 2024. The non-stop connection, which is offered every Friday, complements the airline's diverse offering and provides access to the beautiful beaches and resorts on the Turkish Riviera.

Economic and service aspects

With the introduction of over 330.000 seats from Nuremberg, SunExpress ensures that a large number of travelers have the opportunity to visit the Turkish coast. This marks a significant expansion of capacity and offers passengers a variety of options for their travel planning. Booking of flights will continue to be done via the SunExpress website, in travel agencies or with reputable tour operators, which makes access to the popular destinations easier.

Michael Hupe, Managing Director of Nuremberg Airport, emphasizes: "Passengers from the Nuremberg metropolitan region will benefit from what is expected to be the most extensive Antalya offer ever in summer 2025. The offer from our long-standing partner SunExpress with additional flights in the middle of the day will also grow significantly. Families in particular should be pleased with the expanded offer."

Wilken Bellmann, Head of Network Planning at SunExpress, adds: "Whether for a spontaneous weekend trip, the annual beach holiday or a visit to friends or relatives, SunExpress has the right flight for all travellers with a wide variety of flights from Nuremberg Airport to Antalya, Izmir and Dalaman. So nothing stands in the way of flexible and individual travel planning for a holiday on the Turkish Riviera."

With the expanded flight offer from Nuremberg for summer 2025, SunExpress shows how important it is to meet the needs of travelers. The extensive connection to Antalya as well as the regular flights to Izmir and Dalaman underline the airline's commitment to offering its customers high-quality and flexible travel options. These expansions are not only a sign of SunExpress' growth, but also of the continued importance of Nuremberg Airport as a key hub for travel to Turkey.

I doubt whether further expansion of routes is a good idea given the current status of this airline. Thousands of passengers had terrible experiences last weekend that were similar to ours:
We were supposed to fly back to Düsseldorf from Antalya on Sunday, but half an hour before departure, XQ 180 was shown as “cancelled” on Flightradar24. There was no information at all from SunExpress and the staff at the boarding gates lost all foreign language skills within seconds.
In the chaos, other passengers with the same problem who wanted to go to Stuttgart gradually appeared. Without any official information from SunExpress, some passengers were then taken back to the terminal by bus to collect their luggage.
There was complete confusion at the SunExpress counter. Passengers were ultimately driven in clearly overloaded coaches to a hotel that had no rooms available. After much back and forth, a hotel was found that was still positively rated as a dump.
The replacement flight announced for the next day was then also cancelled - even without official information - and we then learned through unofficial contacts (Turkish employees of a Düsseldorf travel agency) that there was probably no flight in the next few days. We therefore booked a flight to Cologne that evening with another airline on our own initiative and at our own expense.
There are some serious inconsistencies in connection with this situation that has lasted for days, which my contact at German air traffic control commented on as "exciting and very unusual". Anyone interested should check whether the canceled flight XQ 180 took place on July 21.07.2024, XNUMX according to Flightradar.
