The Turkish holiday airline SunExpress was able to achieve a profit of 59 million euros in the previous year. The joint venture between Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines had around six million passengers on board with an occupancy rate of 75 percent.

"Tourist demand above the 2019 level confirms that German holidaymakers continue to rely on Turkey as a safe, close and inexpensive travel destination. With daily direct flights from 15 departure airports in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, SunExpress remains the leading airline for holiday flights to the Turkish Riviera and will invest heavily in expanding this positioning in 2022,” says Airline CEO Max Kownatzki. “The current booking situation suggests a strong summer. This brings our goal of welcoming nine million passengers on board this year within reach.”

The leisure airline is currently considering expanding its fleet of 47 Boeing medium-haul jets. Both the rental of wet lease capacities and the incorporation of additional aircraft are possible. You can no longer fall back on SunExpress Germany, because the former sister company was in the first Corona year closed.

Carrier launches 25 new routes

With a total of 25 new routes and 16.250 additional flights, SunExpress will record the largest route network expansion in the company's history in the coming summer. SunExpress now offers non-stop flights on more than 175 routes from Turkey to 60 destinations in 30 countries. In the summer, SunExpress alone offers a total of 33.000 flights to Antalya, Izmir, Dalaman and Bodrum. The largest international growth market for SunExpress is Great Britain, with around 40 weekly direct connections to Turkey from London-Gatwick, London-Luton, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh. The airline is increasing the capacity offered in the British market by 500 percent, from 60.000 seats in 2019 to 360.000 in 2022.

In Anatolia traffic, the airline will offer direct connections from 18 cities in Europe to 14 Anatolian destinations next summer, which corresponds to 1.250 additional flights compared to last year. SunExpress is launching five new international connections: Düsseldorf-Ordu, Dortmund-Zonguldak, Vienna-Kayseri, Vienna-Samsun and Copenhagen-Ankara.
