A suspect has been arrested in Lithuania in connection with the sending of incendiary devices to Germany and Great Britain. According to German media reports, the Lithuanian authorities are refusing to comment on the case for reasons of national security.

The arrest is related to incidents in July in which incendiary devices caused fires at both Leipzig Airport and a DHL warehouse in Birmingham. Both fires were extinguished without any injuries.

Thomas Haldenwang, head of the German domestic intelligence service, said there was a suspicion that Russian espionage and sabotage could be behind the incidents. The aim was to cause unrest in countries that support Ukraine. The British anti-terror police are also investigating possible Russian involvement, but no arrests have been made in the British case so far. The investigations are continuing in close international cooperation. The Lithuanian authorities are withholding further information for security reasons.
