The AUA sister company took delivery of its 30th Airbus A220 at Zurich Airport, thereby reaching an important milestone in the fleet renewal project. It was the first to order and operate the aircraft model, which was developed from scratch. The Airbus A220-300, registered HB-JCU, was named "Davos" after its arrival.
The aircraft with the registration HB-JCU was flown in directly from Mirabel, the Airbus Canada plant in Montreal. With the arrival of the aircraft of the type Airbus A220-300, the carrier closes the fleet of this CO2low-emission short- and medium-haul aircraft successfully.
"With the arrival of the 30th Airbus A220 today, we have reached an important milestone in the largest fleet renewal project in Swiss history," explains airline boss Dieter Vranckx. “We are proud to operate 30 machines of this innovative type of aircraft. The Airbus A220 helps ensure that we have one of the most modern fleets in Europe. We are thus assuming our environmental responsibility and will continue to invest in modern aircraft and technologies in the future, ”said Vranckx.
Swiss now operates nine aircraft of the smaller Airbus A220-100 (125 seats) and 21 of the larger Airbus A220-300 (145 seats). It was the first-time customer and operator of the newly developed aircraft model. SWISS carried out the world's first commercial flight of an Airbus A220-100 on July 15, 2016 from Zurich to Paris.
