Contrary to previous practice, the Lufthansa subsidiary Swiss will also hire first officers who have already completed pilot training in the coming years. One is interested in people with and without a valid type rating.

For various reasons, Swiss paused pilot training during the corona pandemic. This also has negative effects, because there are too few junior pilots from the group's own squad. In order to be able to meet the need for additional pilots, first officers with previous experience are now also being accepted.

“We look forward to welcoming experienced co-pilots to our team soon. The training of new pilots takes around two years. In order to ensure stable flight operations in the medium term, we are dependent on hiring first officers who have already been trained," says Stefan-Kenan Scheib, Head of Flight.

In order to work as a pilot at Swiss, various criteria must be met in addition to an impeccable reputation and integrity, mature and loyal personality with social skills and leadership potential. The requirements can be found on the carrier's homepage. Experienced applicants with a valid Airbus Type Rating will be given preference. The positively assessed first officers receive a permanent employment contract, and the training takes place at Lufthansa Aviation Training in Glattbrugg.
