On February 24, Swiss presented the first aircraft equipped with the newly introduced Premium Economy Class at Zurich Airport. The Boeing 777-300ER with the registration HB-JNH will be deployed between Zurich and Miami from the beginning of March.

The new travel class will complement the existing Economy, Business and First Class and will be gradually introduced on the twelve Boeing 777-300ER long-haul aircraft. After Miami, the next destinations will be the western American metropolis of San Francisco from mid-April and São Paulo in Brazil from the end of April. At the end of May, Premium Economy Class will then be available on all Boeing 777-300ER routes. With the Premium Economy experience, the Swiss airline wants to strengthen its premium positioning, especially in the growing leisure travel sector.

“In an international comparison of the competition, Swiss Premium Economy Class stands out as a clear top product and I am very pleased to be able to offer our customers this new best-in-class travel class. Premium Economy Class is primarily intended for those passengers who have previously opted for our Economy Class and who would like to upgrade their travel experience. We are thus strengthening our premium positioning in the growing leisure travel sector," says Swiss CCO Tamur Goudarzi Pour.

Newly developed seat offers more privacy and comfort

For each Boeing 777-300ER, Swiss will offer 24 Premium Economy Class seats from the new seat generation from manufacturer ZIM. The seat with seat covers from the Bernese company Lantal is integrated into a hard shell and can be easily adjusted. This makes Swiss the first airline within the Lufthansa Group to offer its customers this newly developed seat from ZIM.

Travel kit and amenities on board and on the ground

For more comfort, passengers in Premium Economy Class also receive travel toiletries from Skysupply. The innovative products made from Kraft Paper and Paper Pulp aim to reduce the use of plastic. "We attach great importance to making the entire travel chain sustainable, because we not only want to be premium for our passengers, but also assume our responsibility towards the climate and society in equal measure," Goudarzi Pour continues. Passengers also receive noise-reducing headphones, which are intended to enhance the film or music experience on the 15,6-inch monitor.

With two pieces of baggage weighing 23 kg each, customers have twice as much baggage allowance as in Economy Class. In addition, they would benefit from discounted entry to the Swiss Business Lounges at Zurich and Geneva airports and the Swiss Arrival Lounge at Zurich airport, according to the AUA sister company in a press release.
