The airline Swiss – like its sister companies Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines – temporarily no longer wants to use the airspace of the Russian Federation. So far, Switzerland has not imposed any official sanctions against Russia.
For safety reasons, Swiss is willing to accept longer flight times, as the carrier's long-haul flights have been circumnavigating Russian airspace since Saturday. The Lufthansa subsidiary thus joins a whole series of airlines that act in this way.
Since Switzerland has not yet adopted the EU sanctions or has not joined them, Swiss would not be affected by any overflight bans over Russia. Nevertheless, the decision was made to temporarily stop using it for security reasons. Passengers must therefore be prepared for longer flight times.
