Swissport subsidiary Aspire is investing heavily in British airport hospitality.

Swissport subsidiary Aspire Pre-Flight Hospitality has announced a major expansion of its facilities at Birmingham Airport. From summer 2026, the company will offer three different lounge levels to meet the growing demand in the premium segment.

In addition to modernizing the existing Aspire Lounge, two new concepts are being introduced: “Luxe by Aspire” for discerning guests and the exclusive “Suite by Aspire,” which, with à la carte menus and personalized table service, aims to reflect First Class standards. This expansion is part of a broader investment strategy in the UK and Irish markets, where Aspire served approximately 1,2 million passengers in 2025 alone.

Birmingham Airport, which handled over 13 million passengers last year, is currently undergoing a terminal modernization. The new lounges are architecturally inspired by Birmingham's industrial heritage, incorporating design elements from the local canal network and the Science Museum. The facilities cater to both business travelers requiring private workspaces and leisure travelers seeking a relaxed atmosphere before their flight. Access prices vary depending on the tier, starting at around £43 for the standard lounge, while the most exclusive option costs over £60 with advance booking.

Swissport's global strategy envisions expanding the Aspire portfolio to 110 locations worldwide by the end of 2026. In addition to Birmingham, new openings are planned at key international transport hubs such as Stockholm, Geneva, Calgary, and Manchester. David Collyer, Global Senior Vice President of Aspire, emphasized that the expansion in Birmingham underscores the strong global demand for flexible, high-quality pre-flight lounge options. By leveraging data-driven insights into passenger behavior, service processes will be optimized, and lounge customers will avoid waiting times in the public terminal area.

Swissport benefits economically from Aspire, which stems from passengers' increasing willingness to pay for additional comfort on the ground. The company covers various price segments with its diverse modules and works closely with partners in the banking sector and major airline alliances. The modernization in Birmingham is considered a benchmark project for future investments in Europe and North America, as it combines sophisticated design with a high operational capacity of nearly 300 seats across three new areas. This supports Birmingham Airport's long-term growth strategy, which aims to solidify its position as a key hub in the English Midlands.
