Following a parliamentary decision, Switzerland signed a contract with the US government for the delivery of 36 Lockheed Martin F-35A fighter jets. These are to be delivered between 2027 and 2030.
The Confederation wants to use it to renew the current fleet, which includes F/A-18 Hornets and F-5 Tigers. It is planned that the older models will be phased out step by step. The Swiss parliament has already given the green light for this step.
Furthermore, a so-called fixed price clause has been agreed with the USA. This is intended to protect the Confederation from any additional costs. The costs for the integration of the Swiss management and information systems were also agreed. Part of the purchase price is also to be compensated for by offsetting transactions. It is hoped that companies from the Confederation will receive orders worth around 2,9 billion Swiss francs.
