Eurowings suspends Stuttgart-Timisoara

The Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings will discontinue the non-stop connection between Stuttgart and Timisoara in September 2023. The route is scheduled to be served for the last time on September 22, 2023 - at least for the time being. Taking into account the fact that the Blue Air bankruptcy has already left gaps, the Romanian offer from the southern German airport is shrinking further. According to Boardingpass.ro, the Timisoara route could be reactivated in the 2024 summer flight schedule, as Eurowings is offering tickets for purchase during the ticket period mentioned.

Eurowings is building new bases in Hanover and Nuremberg

The Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings is increasing its offering from the German airports of Nuremberg and Hanover in the 2023/24 winter flight schedule. Among other things, it plans to add new flight connections to the Canary Islands and Egypt. It will also initially station an aircraft at both airports. According to the airline, in winter 2023/24 there will be new flights from Nuremberg to Gran Canaria, Hurghada and Marsa Alam as well as Mallorca. From Hanover it also plans to fly to Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Hurghada, Pristina and Mallorca. The carrier plans to take further expansion steps in the 2024 summer flight schedule. For example: From Nuremberg there will be three flights a week to Heraklion. The new Greek destinations Preveza and Rhodes will be served twice a week. Eurowings will fly to the Balearic island of Mallorca 14 times a week from Nuremberg. From Hanover, in addition to two weekly flights to Faro in Portugal and the new destination Malaga (four times a week), there is a clear focus on Italy: with Rome (four times a week), Catania and Naples (three times a week), Bari, Olbia and Lamezia Terme (each twice a week), Eurowings ensures good and direct connections to one of the most popular holiday destinations for northern Germans. The summer offer from Lower Saxony's most important airport is supplemented by flights to Thessaloniki (twice a week), 14 weekly connections to Mallorca and the connection to Pristina (once a week). The expansion of the route network means that one aircraft will be stationed in Nuremberg and Hanover over the winter of 2023/24. In summer 2024, the future base in Lower Saxony will be supplemented by a second aircraft. In Nuremberg, according to the current state of affairs, there will be one Airbus jet. "From the

Expensive ticket prices make Eurowings and Discover Airlines profitable

For many years, the Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings was deep in the red. The former long-haul activities in particular dragged the operating result deep into the basement. After an extremely long dry spell, the airline returned to profit in the first half of 2023. Officially, the initial success is justified by the fact that the strategy has been adjusted and that this is now bearing fruit. However, the reason behind this is more likely to be that the Lufthansa Group has massively increased prices on almost all routes where it has no competitors. There are many routes, especially from Germany, where it has no competitors. Since demand is very high this year, the group, to which Eurowings also belongs, has managed to sell tickets at significantly higher prices. The general inflation alone cannot justify the exorbitantly increased airfares on many routes, but if passengers are willing to pay for it, it is called a free market economy or completely legal profit optimization. In general, this would also be a favour to the green camp in politics, which has been demanding for several years that airline tickets must become more expensive. However, if the planes are filled despite higher prices, the environment does not benefit, but rather the owners and shareholders enjoy higher dividends through legal detours. Eurowings Discover also flies profitably Eurowings was once a regional airline that initially operated on its own account and later as an ACMI provider for Lufthansa and, for a short time, Germanwings. The carrier was later converted into a low-cost airline for the Kranich Group and has been making high losses ever since. Only

FTI and Eurowings agree on SAF cooperation

In cooperation with Eurowings, the tour operator FTI wants to offer so-called sustainable flights as part of its package tours. To this end, the new "Leisure Value Fare" is being launched. A surcharge of 15 euros is payable per person and route. FTI is promised to cover the additional costs for SAF fuel on behalf of its customers. Eurowings has committed to using the additional income for this purpose. The origin of the SAF is stated as the Lufthansa Group pool. "We want to make a contribution to more climate-friendly flying and are deliberately directing this offer to sustainably oriented customers through the travel agency. With the Leisure Value Fare, we are now giving the counter the opportunity to better address the topic in the flight segment as well," says FTI Managing Director Karl Markgraf. The new fare can initially only be booked through travel agencies.
