After Japan and Korea, another Far Eastern country is making entry easier for tourists: from September 12, 2022, Taiwan will lift the visa requirement introduced for Corona.
According to the online portal fvw, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced this step. The visa waiver applies to nationals of European countries, the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Taiwan's diplomatic allies. This means the states that recognize Taiwan as an independent state and maintain official diplomatic contacts. According to the CECC, in this way they want to “be in line with international trends and strike a balance between the needs of disease prevention and the promotion of economic and social activities”.
However, the step is by no means set in stone. All border measures and relevant epidemic prevention measures would be continuously adjusted depending on the development of the pandemic situation. However, tourist group trips are still not possible.
Furthermore, all travelers to Taiwan, regardless of their nationality or country of origin, have to go into isolation for three days after entry, followed by four days of stricter self-control. If it is necessary to leave the accommodation, a quick test is required here, contacts should be reduced to a minimum.
Otherwise, the quarantine must take place in a quarantine accommodation (hotel) designated by the government. Isolation in the quarantine hotel must be in a single room. The traveler must bear the costs for both any Covid-19 tests and any Covid-19 treatment. Immediately after entry at the airport, another PCR test is mandatory. The test is organized by the airport staff.
