“Tarzan” in Stuttgart: A gripping and successful show

The musical “Tarzan” at the Palladium Theater Stuttgart takes the audience into a fascinating world of music, dance and acrobatics. The story, which is based on the 1999 Disney film of the same name and the classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, is brought to life in an impressive production.

With music by Phil Collins and an extraordinary stage design, the musical succeeds in impressively portraying the essence of the jungle and the moving story of Tarzan and Jane. "Tarzan" can currently be seen at the Palladium Theater Stuttgart, operated by Stage Entertainment Germany, which is located directly opposite the Apollo Theater on the SI Center site near Stuttgart-Echterdingen Airport.

A gripping story full of emotions

"Tarzan" tells the story of a little boy who is washed up on the coast of Africa as an orphan after a shipping accident. There he is taken in by a gorilla family and grows up as one of them in the jungle. But as the boy grows into a young man, he begins to ask questions about his true origins. His encounter with researcher Jane Porter ultimately turns his whole life upside down. Tarzan is faced with the difficult decision of whether he wants to live in the world of humans or animals.

The production in the Palladium Theater leaves nothing to be desired. The actors who play both the people and the animals show incredible physical presence. The portrayal of the gorillas is particularly impressive; their movements are rehearsed down to the smallest detail and give the audience the illusion that they are actually watching wild animals. The love story between Tarzan and Jane is told in an emotional and stirring way, without being cheesy. The chemistry between the two main actors is palpable and contributes significantly to the emotional depth of the musical.

An audiovisual spectacle: music, stage design and choreography

Phil Collins' music is a key element of the musical. Classics such as "You'll Be in My Heart" and "Two Worlds" are not only emotionally touching, but also fit perfectly into the plot. The live music, combined with the powerful voices of the actors, gives the audience goosebumps. The lyrics and melodies take the audience on an emotional journey that ranges from quiet, melancholic tones to powerful, energetic rhythms.

The set design is another highlight of the performance. The jungle is brought to life with the help of lush vegetation, hanging lianas and impressive light installations. This creative implementation literally immerses the audience in the world of Tarzan. The aerial acrobatics scenes in which Tarzan and the gorillas swing through the air are particularly spectacular. These moments not only create tension, but also a feeling of freedom and adventure that reflects the essence of the story.

The choreography is dynamic and powerful, especially in the scenes in which the gorilla family acts. The dance interludes are a perfect symbiosis of dance precision and animal wildness. This mixture contributes significantly to the atmosphere of the musical and ensures that the performances have a lasting effect not only visually but also emotionally.

Outstanding acting performances

The actors' performances are another reason why the musical "Tarzan" is so successful at the Palladium Theater Stuttgart. The actors who play Tarzan and Jane are not only vocally outstanding, but also impress with their acting depth and physical expressiveness. They manage to portray the inner conflicts of their characters in an authentic and touching way. The supporting roles, such as Tarzan's gorilla mother Kala or the researcher Professor Porter, are also cast with great skill and contribute significantly to the quality of the performance.

Particularly noteworthy are the performances of those people who are not visible, but without whose contribution the show would be almost silent. We are of course talking about the orchestra, which cannot be seen but can be heard. Their performances are impressive. The technicians who take care of the lighting, the stage design and the sound system, for example, also do a good job. However, given the high prices charged by the theater's owner, Stage Entertainment, visitors can expect a perfect performance including optimal interaction between music, technology and actors.

The Palladium Theater Stuttgart: A young but traditional venue

The "Stage Palladium Theater Stuttgart", where "Tarzan" is currently being performed, is itself an important part of Stuttgart's cultural history. The theater opened in 1997 and has since established itself as one of the leading venues for musicals in Germany. With its modern architecture and first-class technical equipment, it offers ideal conditions for elaborate productions such as "Tarzan". The theater has more than 1.800 seats and, thanks to its well-thought-out design, offers the audience an excellent view from every seat.

The Palladium Theater Stuttgart was originally called "Musical Hall II" and was operated by Stella Entertainment, just like the Apollo Theater, which was three years older (formerly "Musical Hall I"). After the latter's insolvency, both venues were taken over by what is now Stage Entertainment Germany. The operator and owner are therefore the same.

Over the years, the Palladium Theater has hosted numerous successful musicals, including classics such as "Dance of the Vampires," "Wicked," and "Mamma Mia!" The theater is known for its high production quality and its ability to bring international musical hits to Germany. The current program, with "Tarzan" as the highlight, continues this tradition impressively.

A must for musical and Disney fans

The musical "Tarzan" at the Palladium Theater Stuttgart is an absolute must for all musical lovers. The perfect combination of rousing music, spectacular stage art and outstanding acting makes the performance an unforgettable experience. The impressive production takes the audience into a magical world and makes hearts beat faster. If you haven't seen the musical yet, you should get tickets, because this production is undoubtedly one of the best currently on show in Germany.

Overall, it is clear that both the musical “Tarzan” and the Palladium Theater Stuttgart form a perfect symbiosis that makes every visit a special event. With its impressive history and traditional venue, Stuttgart offers a top-class musical experience.

I saw the musical last year in fall or winter.

In order not to digress too much, I will briefly summarize here: 1) the stage design is poor and anything but impressive 2) some of the actors have strong accents and most of them sing at a low level 3) the funny old professor from the Disney film does not exist in the musical, his role is taken over by Jane, who is now beautiful and smart, thanks to Disney's persistent attempts to educate towards equality and diversity

I have seen about 10-15 musicals in my life and this was one of the worst. My mother, a passionate musical-goer, shares my opinion.

In general, I have the feeling that musicals in Vienna are in a completely different league. Here I can highly recommend The Phantom of the Opera (current), Falco (current, only if you like his music) and especially Rebecca (I don't think this one is currently being performed) in the Raimund and Ronacher theaters.

Unfortunately, articles like this one give the impression of being financed by the organizers of the musicals.

In any case, if the readers of this comment allow me, here is a final appeal: If it makes no difference to you in terms of travel, then go to Vienna and not to Stuttgart!

    Hi all,

I have to write a counter comment to Leo.

I have seen many musicals now, including Tarzan in Stuttgart in 2024 many times.

1 The set design, especially the lighting effects, are sensational. “Regarding the poor set design”: Here you have to remember that in the many flight scenes, many props would be a nuisance and would probably even be too dangerous for the actors. Obstacles in flight would be suboptimal.

2 The actors are outstanding, especially the speech intelligibility is absolutely perfect if you sit in the middle at the front. I can't judge what it's like in tier 1 or tier 2 further up, as I never sit there. Also to consider: the sound may not have been quite optimal at the beginning in 2023. However, since 2024 everything has been absolutely of a high standard.

3 The story is modern and believable, I can't detect any "penetrative educational attempts" from Disney here. Everything is very gripping, with many emotional scenes that bring tears to your eyes.

Conclusion: One of the best musicals I have ever seen!
And if you're in Stuttgart, you should also visit TINA across the street. It won't be open for much longer and is also worth a visit.
