The German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) hopes that the electricity and gas price brake will quickly reach companies and consumers. Otherwise, you see about 19 percent of the members immediately before the closure.

The significant increase in energy costs in 2022 will not only affect private households, but also hotels and restaurants. Significant price increases have already occurred, but not all additional costs can be passed on one-to-one, as this is also at the expense of demand.

A survey conducted among Dehoga members showed that sales in October 2022 are said to have been around 5,9 percent below the value of October 2019. Over the first ten months, the companies were 9,5 percent below the pre-crisis level. The current booking situation in Germany should be quite different.

Many companies expect that the Christmas business could at best be "satisfactory to good". After all, 45 percent of the survey participants assume that this will be "bad". Comparatively low advance booking figures are also cited. The greatest challenges are said to lie in the high energy costs, expensive food and personnel costs.
