On the first Sunday of Easter holidays, employees in passenger handling at Düsseldorf Airport temporarily stopped their work.

More than half of the workforce at the airport service provider Aviation Handling Services (AHS) followed a call by the Verdi service union for a warning strike from the night, reports zeit.de. The second shift was also on strike by noon. According to an airport spokeswoman, the effects initially remained minor, neither flights were canceled due to the work stoppages, nor were there any notable delays. According to the union, there were long lines at check-in counters.

The union wants to raise wages for around 500 employees in North Rhine-Westphalia and asked employers to return to the negotiating table. A compromise reached a year ago has not yet been signed and implemented. The airport service provider based in Hamburg announced that the tariff agreement had been declared ineffective by a court.
