The regional airline Skyalps will start a new non-stop connection to Rome-Fiumicino in September 2023. However, these are not offered from the home base in Bolzano, but from Verona.
The South Tyrolean aviation company is currently trying to find new routes outside of the Bolzano home base. On Friday, for example, it was announced that in the future will fly between Linz and Düsseldorf. This is the first route to be offered outside of the home base or outside of Italy. It has already been announced for spring 2024 that the connection from Upper Austria will have to be increased with improved flight times.
From September 25, 2023, Skyalps wants to fly twice the day between Verona and Rome-Fiumicino. This route will be served by de Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprop aircraft. There are currently four of these regional traffic machines. Two more are in the pipeline.
The flight price should include a free parking space at Bolzano “San Giacomo” airport and a shuttle bus to Verona. Skyalps probably wants to achieve that they also want to win over potential passengers in the catchment area of the home base. In the past there were flights between Bolzano and Rome-Fiumicino in the portfolio, but these were abandoned due to lack of demand. Now they are trying to get there from Verona Airport and the South Tyrolean passengers are supposed to arrive by free bus.
The cheapest one-way tickets on the planned domestic route should cost 75 euros. This route is to be served on the traffic days Monday to Friday at the double end of the day. One circuit is planned on Saturdays and Sundays. Airline ticket sales have already started.
Just a few days ago it was announced that the South Tyrolean carrier was to replace the de Havilland Dash-8 fleet can be retrofitted with winglets. This should reduce fuel consumption. At the same time, it is hoped that the climbing performance at the home base in Bozen will improve.
