A superlative hotel is currently being built at Vienna Airport. The "Vienna House Easy by Wyndham," built by the Viennese MAMMA Group, celebrated its topping-out ceremony on Monday morning. Among those present were Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner, Vienna Airport Board Member Günther Ofner, MAMMA Group CEO Herbert Pinzolits, and Site Manager Wolfgang Scheibenpflug. The hotel is scheduled to open its doors by the end of this year and will not only be the largest hotel on the airport site, but also the largest timber-framed hotel in Lower Austria and Europe.
Governor Mikl-Leitner described the project as "impressive" and emphasized its significance for the entire airport region as well as for Lower Austria as a business and tourism location. With over 60.000 domestic and international travelers daily and an expected 30 million passengers annually, the airport is an important "gateway to the world." Furthermore, the airport is a major employer with more than 23.000 jobs and over 250 local businesses. The new hotel fits perfectly into this dynamic environment and makes an important contribution to the state's bed offensive, which aims to develop Lower Austria from an excursion destination to a vacation destination. Of the targeted 4.000 additional beds, over 2022 have already been built since 1.000, and the "Vienna House Easy by Wyndham" will nearly double this number.
Strengthening the business and event location
Mikl-Leitner also emphasized the importance of the new hotel for Lower Austria as a destination for business events. Short distances, international connections, and support from the Lower Austria Convention Bureau would make the location even more attractive for conferences and meetings.
Vienna Airport CEO Günther Ofner praised the project as "wonderful," as it was completed in a short time and demonstrates that innovation and technology can solve problems for the economy. The construction of the hotel creates urgently needed room capacity and is a targeted investment in the future viability of the location.
Europe's largest wooden hotel sets standards
Herbert Pinzolits, owner and CEO of the MAMMA Group, highlighted the hotel's innovative concept and sustainable construction. He described the project as a milestone for the European hotel industry, both in terms of its size and its ecological responsibility. The "Vienna House Easy" uses a wood-hybrid construction method and, upon completion, will be the largest wood-construction hotel in Europe with 510 rooms.
Wolfgang Scheibenpflug, Head of Real Estate and Site Management at Flughafen Wien AG, sees the new "Vienna House Easy" as the next phase in the development of Airport City. It ideally complements the diverse infrastructure offering, which includes convenient access to terminals and rail infrastructure, modern office and event space, and, in the future, over 1.400 hotel rooms. This will make the location one of the most attractive business hubs in the region. In addition to its timber construction, the hotel will also feature a CO2-free heating and cooling system and a rooftop photovoltaic system. Opening is planned for the end of 2025.
