Tourism in Vienna: Significant increase in overnight stays in May 2024

May 2024 saw an increase of 1,7% year-on-year in Vienna, with around 15 million overnight stays. A total of 6,6 million guest overnight stays were recorded from January to May, which corresponds to an increase of 11% compared to the same period last year. The net overnight stay turnover of Viennese accommodation establishments in April amounted to 108 million euros, an increase of 6%. From January to April, the establishments generated around 319 million euros, an increase of 10%.

The main markets for overnight stays were Austria with 317.000 overnight stays (+8%), Germany with 397.000 (+22%), and Italy with 61.000 (+26%). The USA, Great Britain, France, Spain, Poland, Switzerland and Romania also showed significant growth.

The average occupancy rate of hotel rooms was 76% in May, compared to 72% in May 2023. Bed occupancy rose to 59,4% (May 2023: 56,4%). From January to May, room occupancy was 62% and bed occupancy 48,1%, slightly higher than in the same period last year. In May 2024, around 76.100 hotel beds were available in Vienna, 9% more than in the previous year.
