In Italy, extremely high summer demand is expected this year. According to Tourism Minister Massimo Garavaglia, the hotels are recording higher booking numbers than, for example, those in France or Spain.
The country has set itself the ambitious goal of equalizing or, ideally, even exceeding the record figure set in 2019 this year. The ministry points out that domestic tourism is playing a bigger role than ever this year. From this it can be deduced that Italians increasingly want to spend their summer holidays on their own beaches.
However, there is also a problem in Italy: there is said to be an acute shortage of staff, especially in the hotel and catering sectors. According to the Ministry of Tourism, around 40 percent of the companies are desperately looking for additional employees. Due to the corona pandemic and the repeated forced closures, many have turned their backs on the industry.
