Trademark rights: Norwegian is being sued by a former bank subsidiary

The airline Norwegian Air Shuttle is in dispute with its former bank subsidiary over the trademark rights. Specifically, it is about preventing the Nordax Group from continuing to use the "Bank Norwegian" brand.

The financial company was founded in 2007. The carrier gradually separated before exiting completely in 2019. At that time, Bank Norwegian went to Cidron Xingu Ltd., which later passed it on to the Nordax Group. After the merger, the credit card business will operate as “Bank Norwegian, en filial av Nordax Bank AB (publ)”. That's exactly what bothers the airline.

The bank has now filed a lawsuit against its former owner, because they want it to be determined that the protected name "Norwegian" can be used legally. The airline is also being threatened with ending its co-branded credit card business.
